Britton Matthews is a recent graduate of the Master of Music program at Rutgers University. Currently residing in Astoria, NY, Britton maintains an active schedule of performance and arts management. She is a founding member of the Broadway Reading Orchestra, and has most recently performed with the Astoria and Plainfield Symphonies. She is currently managing and collaborating with the Metropolis Ensemble - the new, highly acclaimed chamber ensemble of the New York City area. In addition, Britton recently joined forces with Chicago-based percussionist Annie Stevens. The duo debuted in November 2007, and currently performs a wide variety of new and unique percussion duo repertoire throughout New York, New Jersey, Chicago and throughout the US. Britton performed alongside She-e Wu in a showcase concert at the 2005 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (Columbus, Ohio), and competed internationally in the 4th Annual Paris Marimba Competition (2006). She can be seen on the Public Broadcasting System’s HDTV musical celebration: Christmas at Baylor, and heard on KWBU’s Music at Baylor, performing Leigh Howard Stevens’s Rhythmic Caprice. Britton has taught percussion for over ten years in both Texas and New Jersey. She served two years on the instructional faculty of the Leigh Howard Stevens Pre-College Summer Marimba Seminar and four years with the Baylor Summer Music Program. Britton has a passion for contemporary music and enjoys working closely with emerging composers to commission new literature for percussion. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Britton received her Bachelor’s of Music Education from Baylor University. Her teachers include She-e Wu, Bob Becker, Chris Deviney, Todd Meehan and the late Dr. Larry Vanlandingham.
